Arizona FLL Season Kickoff and Coaches’ Workshop at ASU
Come join us for the 2025-2026 FLL Coaches’ Workshop & UNEARTHED Season Kickoff!
Learn the fundamentals of coaching an FLL team through this hands-on workshop. Try out a LEGO SPIKE Prime robot, talk to experienced coaches, and learn more about creating a top-notch Innovation Project. This workshop is a great way for new or prospective coaches to get started and for seasoned coaches to brush up on their skills. Doors open at 8:30 AM for an informal Meet & Greet with coffee and light pastries. Sessions begin at 9:00 AM, and we expect to wrap up by 2:00 PM. Lunch will be provided.
We’ll have a fully built UNEARTHED field available to explore. Our Arizona head referee will walk through the fully built UNEARTHED field and go over updates to the game rule book. Arizona Judge Advisor Nancy will walk us through this season’s judging sessions.
We are excited that John Murray will be giving a keynote address starting at 12:15 PM. John Murray is an ASU PhD candidate interested in paleoanthropology, hominin behavioral variability, lithic technology, experimental archaeology, human-environment interaction, and evolutionary theory. John has conducted field work on the Azraq Marshes Archaeological and Paleoecological Project (AMAPP) at the late Lower Paleolithic site Shishan Marsh – 1 in al-Azraq, Jordan. Further, he has worked at the Upper Paleolithic cave site Mughr el-Hamamah in the Jordan Valley. Currently, John is working at the Later Stone Age site, Knysna in South Africa. His dissertation research will investigate the role of pyrotechnology in human adaptations during the late Middle and Later Stone Age of South Africa.

By popular demand, we’re once again inviting students to join us. While the sessions are designed for coaches, mentors, and volunteers, team members are welcome to attend and take part in the kickoff excitement. Please RSVP by filling out this form. You’ll be asked to let us know how many students will be joining you. This helps us plan for space, food, and materials. We understand that not everyone can attend in person. All sessions will be recorded and made available on the ASU Engineering Outreach YouTube channel after the event
Make sure to watch the worldwide reveal of the new UNEARTHED challenge on Tuesday, August 5th at 9 AM AZ time. Details will be sent by FIRST in the next few weeks.
